I have tested this beard oil that was sent to me by Apothecary87. This beard oil was sent to me in the scents of Unscented, Original Recipe and Vanilla & Mango. Apothecary 87 didn’t do what many companies do with just changing the scent they actually each have there own ingredients list. because of this, I will be doing this post a bit differently than others to make this all more organized.
Apothecary seams to send all there products in a box with a neat little collector wanted card. The box has its identifier on the front then the sides have a photograph as the back has the ingredients list and directions to use. Once you open the lid of the box you will see the squeeze ball of the eye dropper that has another lid around it that you must lift up and to the side. This lid is part of an internal packaging that holds the product away from all sides of the external box. I assume this gives the bottles more protection. The bottles are pretty standard for the most part being glass with a glass eye dropper lid. However, the size is not standard. The product comes in a 1.69 FL OZ (50ML) bottle.
Scent & Ingredients:
I mentioned earlier that there were three scents sent to me in Unscented, Original Recipe and Vanilla & Mango and that each of these has it’s own ingredients, because of this I have included the scent and ingredients section into one with each scent having its own info. Where possible I have used the English names instead of the scientific.
Vanilla & Mango:
This ended up being my favorite of the two that had a scent. My nose catches the mango immediately then the light scent of vanilla works its way in for a nice mixture of the two.
Grapeseed oil, jojoba seed oil, Argania Spinosa kernel oil, Perfume (fragrance), Cedarwood bark Oil, Tocopheryl acetate, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl salicylate, Limonene, Coumarin, Benzyl alcohol, Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol, Benzyl Cinnamate.
This has a strong soap-like scent when concentrated in the bottle. Once you get it out of the bottle in into your beard it has a flowery scent. With ingredients like musk and Patchouli fighting for dominance, it seemed like there were too many strong scents, but they do complement each other decently.
Grapeseed oil, jojoba seed oil, Perfume (fragrance), Patchouli oil, Tocopheryl acetate, Sandalwood oil, Boswellia carterii oil, Citronellol, Pelargonium graveolens flower oil, Linalool, Geraniol, Limonene, Butylphenyl Methylprpional, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl benzoate, Benzyl salicylate, Alpha-isomethyl lonone, Eugenol, Cintral.
This scent name is pretty self-explanatory but like all unscented grooming products, it does have a slight scent from the ingredients it contains. Even though it has that slight scent it isn’t strong enough to clash or mix with any other scents you may be wearing at the time, so I think this is a great one to use if your waring just about any kind of cologne.
Argon kernel oil, Jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, Cramble abyssinica seed oil, Tocopherol.
I applied these like I do most my oils now, witch is applying to a brush then brushing it in. This worked great with two of the three oils as the third did have an issue with its dropper, it looks to me that there may not be a large enough opening at the end of it to be able to properly expel air and intake oil as it should. This was not that huge of an issue but is a quality controle one that I think is worth pointing out. With that particular oil, I just applied it directly to my goatee using my hand like I used to do.
I liked the scent of the two even though I did find the original to be a bit stronger then I would like it was still an enjoyable scent. the scents seemed to dissipate within a few hours of applying them.
Overall I liked these beard oils and they did a good job and kept my goatee feeling nice and healthy.
These oils are by far the most expensive ones I have reviewed to date. Although I believe they are and id considers them a premium beard oil I have to say that I don’t think they are better than some of the other higher priced ones I have reviewed. the main difference I see is the branding and packaging. If that’s what’s bringing the price up so high for them is the nice boxes Id like to see them minimize that somehow. That being said I do think they are a good oil and if your one to spend a bit on your beard this is definitely a good choice to chose and test out for yourself.
